Do You Compare Yourself to Others?
I have a love hate relationship with social media. It seems to me that people display their Kodak moments not their real-life moments. I then look at their Kodak moments and compare my real-life moments to them and my real-life moments suffer by comparison. And I become down in the dumps because I am sitting on my front looking at the street in front of my house and not the clear blue crystal ocean and white sand that can only be found in a tropical area.
I had this thought as I watch some fireworks in my local area on Friday evening. I love the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It is, in my opinion, truly the happiest place on earth, and I am happy when I am there. I love the experience that Disney attempts to make happen for everyone that steps foot on their property.
The highlight of my day at The Magic Kingdom is the fireworks at night and seeing Tinkerbell in flight from the top of Cinderella's Castle. The fireworks at Disney are incredible. I cannot imagine the budget that they have for that display.
After watching those fireworks, I find myself comparing every fireworks display to those at Disney. This was my realization as I watched the fireworks this past Friday evening, they were good, but they weren't Disney's fireworks.
This was an unfair comparison. I am sure that the fireworks I saw on Friday evening didn’t have nearly the budget that Disney does. But you know what? They did the best they could with what they had to work with.
I thought about women battling cancer, that are suffering from the effects of their treatment. What must they feel like if they go on social media and see others that are healthy and smiling and they are doing everything they can to get out of bed?
