You are Healthy Until You Aren't
Three years ago this month I heard the words " You have cancer."
You can't hear those words and not be changed forever.
There is always that looming fear that it will return. And you begin to question every ache and pain as something other than the normal aging process.
I have said that I feel that so many of us, me included, have an illusion that we will live until we are 90 years old, with the same body, the same health, and the same mental capacity. And because we feel that we have all that time, we waste time today. I remember that Michael always used to say " You have your health until you donβt!"
I no longer take my health for granted.
I feel the reality of my existence every time I have an appointment with my oncologist. The pit in my stomach seems to get bigger and bigger each time I step into that building. My palms are sweaty and a wave of nausea comes over me.
I sit and that waiting room looking into the faces of the patients faces that are currently battling cancer and realize how lucky I am and become very grateful for today!!
I am happy to report that I am still in great health and I donβt have to see the doctor again for another 6 months.
Good health is something that should be cherished and celebrated and not taken for granted!!
I thank God every day for the lessons that I have learned from hearing the words "You have cancer!" and I hope I never forget them!!!!
